Glenn keeps officer certification

Former Jefferson Police Chief Darren Glenn has won another legal victory in his bid to clear his name following three years of state investigations and controversy.

The Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council has backed off its efforts to have Glenn’s law enforcement certification revoked. Although Glenn won a major court victory one year ago when a Jackson County Grand Jury refused to indict him following a two-year state investigation, the Georgia P.O.S.T. council had continued to pursue efforts to halt Glenn’s ability to work in law enforcement by revoking his certification.

But in late December, Glenn and P.O.S.T. agreed to a consent order in which the council withdrew its revocation efforts in return for Glenn agreeing to a one-year probation in any future law enforcement job.

“I would have to work a probation period anyway,” Glenn said.

The former Jefferson chief continues to have a lawsuit pending against the City of Jefferson and city council members over his dismissal in June 2006. Glenn won an unemployment compensation hearing against Jefferson shortly after his firing and has won all other civil and criminal proceedings taken against him since the controversy began in 2005.
