Shot fired in armed robbery

A bullet almost hit a convenience store clerk during an armed robbery on Wednesday, Jan. 7, in Braselton, according to police.

The clerk at a BP station on Ga. Hwy. 211 said a suspect came into the store and went behind a counter, where he pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded money. The clerk gave the suspect the money in his drawer, but the suspect demanded additional cash, police said.

The suspect told the clerk to put the money in a bag, which he did. The suspect also demanded two packs of Newport cigarettes, which the clerk gave him.

While bending over to get the wrapped pennies from a safe, the suspect’s gun fired — almost hitting the store clerk in the foot, police said.

The suspect told the clerk to lie on the floor. The suspect left the store in an unknown direction of travel or vehicle. Braselton police said the suspect left with $151 in cash.

The suspect was described as a black male in his 20s, six-feet tall, with brown eyes and short, cropped hair, weighing between 150-160 pounds. The suspect was unshaven and had dark blue jeans, a green shirt and a dark hood.
