Madison County’s girls’ soccer team remains winless after a pair of shutout losses.
The Lady Raiders were blanked 10-0 by seventh-ranked Heritage Friday and 3-0 by Franklin County Monday.
Coach Susanna Hawley tinkered with the lineup after the lopsided loss to Heritage, which yielded some positive results against Franklin County.
“We tried some players in new positions with success, so hopefully that will help us in upcoming games,” Hawley said.
Franklin County scored once in the first half and twice in the second half.
Hawley noted that the first score resulted from a defensive breakdown, while the second came on a perfect shot from 30 yards out.
Franklin County’s final score came via penalty kick, awarded on what Hawley said she thought was an inadvertent handball.
Meanwhile, Madison County’s offense created opportunities, but couldn’t finish.
“I don’t feel the score accurately reflects the closeness of the game,” Hawley said. “I was very proud of how the girls never let down and continued to play hard throughout the game.”
Madison County has scored just once thus far this season, with that goal coming in the Lady Raiders’ 5-1 loss to Clarke Central Feb. 18.
Abby Atkinson supplied the goal, assisted by Bonnie Walker. Walker sparked the play, which turned into a one-on-one with the keeper, according to Hawley.
Atkinson was there to put the ball away when the keeper bobbled it.
Officials called the game in the second half due to inclement weather.
