A mother left her baby in a vehicle while visiting the Braselton Library, according to police.
A witness told police that as she was leaving the library, she heard a small baby crying from inside a Volvo station wagon. The woman said there were no parents around the vehicle, which was turned off.
Several other people then started gathering around the vehicle and several of them went inside the library to find the baby’s parents, according to an incident report.
One of the witnesses said she called 911, left to get her son and when she returned, the baby was still in the vehicle crying.
As soon as a Braselton officer arrived at the scene, a witness said the mother came running out of the library.
The 35-year-old Braselton mother and another small child ran to the vehicle, unlocked the door and tried to quiet the crying baby, an officer said. Two rear windows on the vehicle were rolled down one to two inches.
The mother said the vehicle was hers and she provided the officer her identification.
The officer called the Jackson County Department of Family and Children Services (DFACS) about the incident. The officer said he would issue a citation for disorderly conduct against the mother and release the child to her.
A DFACS worker agreed with the officer and asked him to send a report of the incident for follow-up, according to an incident report.
Don't you read the newspapers where children are killed from leaving them in overheated cars?
So, Dear police, from now on do not be concerned about the child unless the vehicle is moving. Why didn't we all think of that first?
....but wait, the mother is too busy going into the library instead of unstrapping her small child from their carseat. This lady needs to get her priorities straight. Maybe she needs to check out some books on "Parenting 101"
The temperature outside: 80[degrees]F. The temperature inside a parked car: 114[degrees]F. The time it took to reach that temperature: 30 minutes.
In just half an hour the temperature inside a parked car reaches a potentially lethal range for a baby, small child, or pet. Since 1998, 230 children have died from hyperthermia in vehicles--nearly twice the number of hurricane fatalities in the United States.
SO, from the story I guess it okay to press your luck, but if the child dies then you are in trouble. I believe we have that a little backwards and maybe should let people know that you don't gamble with a child's life like this. DFACS, please just do the right thing and make a parent accountable for how they care for the lives of their precious children. Is there really a good reason to leave a childin the car? Accidents happen but this an intentional act of neglegence that thankfully did not have a bad outcome but still should be punished with more than a ticket for disorderly conduct.
about this abuse???? I bet anything she knew the police
or someone in DFAC. If it was a dog or cat in that car
we would still be hearing about the animal abuse.
But hey it's only a human being so it's ok just make sure
you never leave an animal in the car though! Cops will
lock you up for sure to protect a animal you hear about
this all the time plus the will steal the animal and give
it to rescue.
a child in the car while going in the store. I would
hope that mom didn't leave the child alone for more than
a min or two but come on it's spring, it hasn't gotten
over 71 yet, I don't think they would have over heated
that quick and it's Braselton!!! when was the last car
jacking???? Anyway, there's a whole lot worse things that
parents are doing to there kids now days than leaving
them in the
car while going in a store for a few min.
When I was a child in Atlanta in the 1970's and '80's, my
mother left me unattended in a car on a couple of occasions and
I never sat in a car seat or wore a helmet while riding a bike.
Yes, the world has changed since then but Michael is correct
in stating that this mom made a serious judgement error.
So, do we really won't to send her to prison??? I guess the
people who want her in prison ought to pay for it. The prisons
are overcrowded already and then people bitch about taxes
going up. We all need to think things through a little better.
The last time we lost a child due to this type of accident it was a foster Mom. Mistakes do happen, although tragic.
Education and looking out for each other makes more sense to me.
PS No, a dog would not concern me as much as a baby.
If the child is taken away from her as you stated and ends
up in state custody, gee, guess what, you and I are paying for
it in higher taxes. Yes, there are plenty of occasions
where taking children away from their parents is warranted,
however, this is not one of them. If America doesn't stop
policing every aspect of our lives, then all we have become
is another Communistic country. We have been leaning this
way for the last 30 years, not so much by the Federal Gov't
but the actions of states and local municipalities creating
tons of "little" rules and regulations. Let Freedom Ring....
she left her child in the car for a min??? You are obviously
not a parent, and if you are... God bless those kids.
There are far far worse parents out there that do drugs, mulest, and beat there children, and you want to put this mother that
ran into a library to get another child in the same catigory????
She may be a wonderful parent as far as we know and was in
a hurry and made a very minor error. No one was killed, no
one was hurt, and after this I'm sure she would think a little
longer on the idea of taking the child in with her next time.
You stated that the same people would have an issue if it were
an animal. NOT HARDLY!! Unfortunatly, I have seen more of a
concern over this than people being alowed to kill
"helpless" babies everyday. So to get my 2 sec on that..PRO-LIFE!!
Give babies a voice!!!STOP ABORTION!!! put your time a effort in that
my friend..this is actually killing kids legally every min.
There's no excuse for this woman and yes everybody makes mistakes. But sometimes mistakes cost lives of the innocent.Sure there was no one hurt in this incident this time but what's to say there won't be a next time in another situation, or that next time it could turn out for the wors? There are consiquences for actions like this that should be administered here,I mean that's how you learn from mistakes. If we just let this go then other parents out there will do the same thing and use this situation in court as an example to try to get off scott free if they are arrested or their child dies in a simular situation or if their child is removed. And to all the others agreeing with her, No maybe we shouldn't take her child from her,nor send her to prison, but DEFACS doesn't need to just let this situation go either. She needs to be monitored and needs to be checked up on by DEFCS on a regular basis. She may indeed be a good mother. But as being a good parent there needs to be caution, common sense, attention, love, and not taking situations for granted even for a sec, this all comes into play with being a good parent. And there's no excue this couldn't have been an accident, due to the FACT: She took time to get the other child out,Why not this one????????????
and cats give love without wanting something in return
I'm a PETA supporter so what if the mom left a baby in
the car, nothing could of happened to the babe
but I'll tell you
one thing if I saw a dog in that car I would of busted
the window to rescue it. Does anyone here see I love
dogs more than people because a person wags their
tongue and a dog wags it tail!
I am an animal love my self but my mental/emotional ability still allow me to love my fellow man.
What a shame that you have lost the ability to reason.
