A late “hit” on a wanted person lead Braselton police to find the suspect in the parking lot of a convenience store.
A Gwinnett officer had stopped a suspect during a traffic violation, only to learn after he was released from the scene that the suspect had a warrant for his arrest from Franklin County.
A Braselton officer found the suspect’s vehicle in the parking lot of the Pilot Travel Center, located off Ga. Hwy. 53.
A man approached the officer and said his name was Terence Brown and the vehicle belonged to him, according to an incident report.
Brown, 49, appeared visibly nervous during conservation with the officer and his hands were shaking, police said. When Brown said he felt like he was being crowded, police allowed him to sit on the front bumper of a patrol vehicle. Brown kept looking at his back pack, which was on the ground.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the warrant and asked police to place a hold on Brown, according to an incident report. Brown asked if he could take his back pack with him.
Brown said there were no weapons or drugs in the back pack, but there was $30,000 inside.
A drug dog from the Georgia State Patrol later indicated a positive hit for possible drugs on the bag and Brown’s vehicle, according to the incident report. Police found no drugs in either.
The cash was taken into custody and Brown was given a case number. A Braselton officer took Brown to a Commerce gas station, where he was given to a Franklin County deputy.
