Dear Editor:
I have a few questions I would like to ask.
First of all, why do we have jurisdictions? Let me make myself a little clearer. I live in Barrow County and last week, Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies came into my home without my permission and arrested my brother.
So why are they allowed in my home and I am in a totally different county? Why have county police officers? Why not just have a lot of State Patrol? I mean to me, it would make better sense just to pay the ones that go all over the state and eliminate the county officers since their jobs are the same. There is no jurisdiction laws evidently so why have county officers?
Second question: Is it not mandatory for an officer to read a person their rights when arresting them? I see on television all the time where they are read their rights and led away. But did you know that it doesn’t happen in real life? Or in this case, it didn’t anyway. Is there nothing wrong with that? I am sure this person knew his rights pretty well, but they still were supposed to be read to him right? Or not?
Third question. How can two different people, both on probation, be arrested, but only one is charged with probation violation? When the other person was arrested for drugs, which seems to me like a much worse crime. I mean do you have to be a certain person, know a certain person, do a certain thing, or what do you have to do to get out of charges that you to should have? If one person can be charged with something, then others should be as well.
Fourth and final question. Did you know that you can go and get warrants for anyone now days? This person doesn’t even have to do anything to you, but you are still able to get a personal warrant for their arrest. That is what happened in this case anyway. And if this is so, I am counting my $20 bills and my enemies, although I am not cold and heartless like some people so this wouldn’t work for me. I can assure you that it wouldn’t work for me anyway because you have to be someone pretty special and know a great someone to be able to just have others arrested on false pretense. Or that is the way it is looking anyway.
Well I just wanted to share that with everyone and thank you all for listening.
Sincerely,
Misty Palmer
