One person was killed and two others were injured Monday morning in a one-vehicle accident in the northbound lane of the U.S. 441 bypass of Commerce. Police believe Robert L. Clark shot and killed his 6-year-old grandson Sunday in a fit of rage over a dropped watermelon. A deadly multi-vehicle accident in Jackson County on Interstate 85 under the Dry Pond Road bridge on Friday morning was slowed by a hazardous materials clean-up. All lanes opened at noon. A 17-year-old Statham youth was killed Saturday morning when he was hit by an oncoming CSX train just outside the city limits. But exactly what happened isn’t yet clear. Some Jackson County property owners will be getting reassessment notices in the mail within the next week. Chief tax appraiser Cathy Johnson said Tuesday that some 9,000 notices will be sent out in the coming days.
