Audit reflects growing county government

While there were no major surprises in the Jackson County 2007 audit, the impact of a growing county government was evident. Overall revenues to the county, excluding borrowing, grew 5.5 percent in 2007 over 2006, topping $49 million. BOE trimming costs in tight budget year

The Jackson County Board of Education has given an initial approval of its 2009 fiscal year budget for $92.4 million. It’s a budget that doesn’t include a deficit or proposed property tax hike, but does foresee cuts in some departments from a previously-proposed budget. Accidental shooting seriously injures Bethlehem boy

BY KRISTI REED A ten-year old Bethlehem boy suffered a shotgun wound to the lower part of his body in what officials describe as an accidental shooting.
