Barrow County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a Bethlehem residence early this morning after the homeowners reported firing several shots at two individuals. Pendergrass slashes budget by 45 percent

Pendergrass has decreased its proposed 2010 budget by 45 percent from last year. Major cuts include the mayor and council foregoing salaries and doing away with all benefits, including insurance, for city employees. Garner files suit against Pendergrass

Former Pendergrass policeman William Garner has joined two other employees in filing a federal lawsuit against the town and its officials. Jefferson will hold its annual Halloween Walk on Friday, October 30, from 4-6 p.m. in downtown Jefferson. The event is open to all kids ages 12 and under. H1N1 flu vaccine now available in county

An early shipment of vaccine for the 2009 H1N1 flu (swine flu) came into the Jackson County Health Department on Tuesday of this week. Quantities are limited in this first shipment of vaccine, so the vaccine has only been sent to public health clinics. Arcade has become the third town in Jackson County to cut its staff, or implement furloughs due to budget problems. Some Jackson County property owners will be getting reassessment notices in the mail within the next week. Chief tax appraiser Cathy Johnson said Tuesday that some 9,000 notices will be sent out in the coming days.
