The rate of growth in Jackson County’s property tax digest dropped by one-third this year, but the 7.7 percent increase for 2008 was still higher than many expected. Ron Johnson and Hunter Bicknell are headed to a run-off election Aug. 5 in their bid for the chairmanship of the Jackson County Board of Commissioners. $3 million estimated to cover staff costs at new jail

It will cost $3 million to fund the 72 new positions needed at the new county jail.
