Christmas in Lula set for Dec. 1

The Christmas in Lula celebration is set for 4-7 p.m. on Sat., Dec. 1. This year’s theme is ‘Old Time Christmas Celebration.’ There will be caroling and holiday treats. Santa will arrive on a fire truck at 5 p.m. The event is held in the Lula Veterans Park.

Sunday alcohol sales will not be allowed in Banks County after the issue failed in Tuesday’s election. When the votes were tallied Tuesday night, it was reported that 3,206 Banks Countians voted against Sunday alcohol sales, while 2,909 county residents voted yes. DOT maintenance under way in Banks

The Georgia Department of Transportation is conducting routine maintenance activities in Banks County this week. The DOT will be mowing on State Route 15/U.S. 441. The crews will work through Friday of this week from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., if weather permits. Motorists should reduce their speed in these and all work zones.

Lavonia woman killed in Banks County crash

A Lavonia woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident in Banks County on Wednesday evening around 6 p.m. According to the Georgia State Patrol report, Joy Renee Lewallen, 51, was a passenger in a 2002 Chevrolet Prizm that pulled into the path of a 1997 Acura and was hit in the passenger side.
