A Banks County High School junior died as a result of injuries suffered in a one-vehicle accident on Hwy. 441 Saturday evening, just north of the county sheriff’s office.
Cody Gowder, a member of the school’s football team, died after the pickup he was driving crashed and flipped several times on Hwy. 441 shortly before 9 p.m. The vehicle struck a guardrail, according to reports from the Georgia State Patrol which investigated the accident.
Two other passengers, Bill Redmon and Kane Duncan, classmates and football teammates of Gowder’s, suffered injuries in the accident after all three were ejected from the truck. Redmon and Duncan were both airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital where they were in stable condition Sunday.
Reports indicated those in the vehicle were not wearing seat belts.
Gowder’s funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Grove Level Baptist Church. Little-Ward Funeral Home of Commerce is handling arrangements.
BCHS football coach Blair Armstrong said practice would be cancelled Monday.

i dont ever recall even talking to him. However im
sure he was a swell kid who had a huge heart and tons
of potential. When someone so young dies, it dosnt just
effect his friends and family. It also shows how kids
these days have to be more carful, no matter how
invinsable they think they are. I just to give my
condulences to his family and anyone who was blessed
to know him.
banks county high school "can you visalize death" at such
a young age and thier response was yes. i dont only think
it is the kids that need the reality check these days
i think it is also the parents we are getting way to
comfortable with not knowing at all times where are
children are no matter what age they may be. we would like
to also as a family send our prayers to the family of
cody may god help you get through these most tragic event
God Speed Cody...
I was disappointed to see the Banks County News article missed this opportunity by failing to mention the fact none of the victims had been using their seat belts. Was this a conscious omission by the paper? If so, shame on you.
If you would sit back and think NOBODY knows how to react to death and you dont know this family I do you dont know what Tyler Bush wanted His mother did and she did what she felt was right and by the way the people who were laying the drags were all over 21 and they knew what they were doing so my suggestion to you is dont open your mouth about something you know nothing about.......
Tyler Bush was a great baby and grew into a wonderful young man who died to soon....He went to be with his father...that is what you need to think about; not how you can pour more salt into the deep wound that his friends and family have to heal.......
in this weeks paper/website. That would be the ideal section
for you guys to voice your concerns.
