DANIELSVILLE - Dale Howard May passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 4, 2012, surrounded by his loved ones at his home in Ila.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who lived his life with integrity. He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, the former Elmira Ruth Srock May.
Dale was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of Jesse Fern Hendershot and Howard Clay May. He remembered fondly his work at Isley's Dairy when he was young. After serving in the United States Navy and receiving his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Youngstown State University, he became an electrical engineer working first with Goodyear in Akron, Ohio, and then with Reliance Electric in Ashtabula, Ohio, and Athens, Ga. He retired from Reliance and spent the remainder of his life playing golf, attending grandchildren's sporting events and family functions. He was an elder at Mt. Hermon Presbyterian Church and served on the Ila Cemetery Committee for many years. He was a graduate of the 1946 class of Fitch High School.
Dale is survived by six sons, Dale, Jr. (Dameron), John (Ruby), Joe (Michele), David (Kelly), Ron (Kaye), and Jeffrey (Linda) May; grandchildren, Mira (David) Brown, Frank (Melissa), Nathan, Aaron, Daniel, Thomas, Sarah, Nick, Jack, Hannah, James, Jed, Jake, and Laura; great-grandchildren, Osley and Eliza Brown; sister, Marjorie Sampson, Warren, Ohio; and brother, Glen May, Youngstown, Ohio.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday October 7, 2012 from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday October 8, at Mt. Hermon Presbyterian Church at 12 p.m., with the Revs. Teresa Franklin, Martha Courie, Miriam Dunson and Michele May officiating. Burial will follow at the Ila Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and the Elders of Mt. Hermon Presbyterian Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to the Ila Cemetery Fund.
Lord and Stephens, Danielsville, has charge of arrangements.
