The Barrow County Board of Commissioners will take action Tuesday night on the annexations of three commercial properties north of Highway 316 into the city of Winder. They include 58.46 acres owned by Akins, Maynard & Bartlett LLP, 4.273 acres owned by Combs & Bartlett LLC, and 10.92 acres owned by Athens Regional Health Resources. The BOC also will vote on annexation requests for two residential properties on Punkin Junction Road.
In addition, the board will vote on a request by Walton Development to annex into the city of Statham 360 acres near Highway 316 and Wall Road.
Among the other major voting items is an agreement with the Barrow County Board of Education for the joint construction of a “social, cultural and entertainment” multi-use event facility off Highway 316. The proposal calls for the county to contribute $2.88 million in sales tax revenues and for the BOE to contribute $1.5 million in sales tax revenues. In exchange for its contribution, the county is to have the right to exclusively utilize the facility 36 days per year. The school system will design, build and maintain the facility.
The BOC’s regular meeting on Nov. 13 starts at 7 p.m. on the second floor of the county government building at 233 E. Broad St. However, this week it will be preceded by a 6 p.m. public hearing on the city of Auburn’s request to change the name of “Hill’s Shop Road” to “Auburn Road.”
