The Jefferson High School Swim Dragons travel Saturday to Morgan County, where the team intends to focus its efforts on achieving qualifying times for the state meet next month.
Jacob Musgrove continues to lead the group, having qualified in several events. The girls’ 4-by-100 freestyle relay team (Falon Bell, Heather Perry, Victoria Swaim and Camille Porter) is also close to a state berth, coaches said.
On Friday, the team showed improvement overall, with the Swim Dragons finishing third as a combined team at a Greater Atlanta Christian meet.
Porter and Perry led the girls, who finished second. Each swimmer finished first in an individual event and also took part in the relay team.
The boys, meanwhile, placed fourth place in a very close contest, shaving off nearly six seconds off their 200-meter medley relay time.
There are two meets planned after this weekend’s Morgan County meet, The North Georgia region meet will be held Jan. 19 at Dalton High, followed by the “last chance” meet sponsored by Flowery Branch at Frances Meadows Aquatic Center on Jan. 26.
