Two female domestic partners who had what one of them called “a bitch fight” as they motored on Interstate 85 last Saturday were each charged with simple battery, according to the Commerce Police Department.
They were identified as Katherine Linsey Marie Funes, 32, and Stephanie Marie Howard, 37, both of 3 West Sable Court, Greenville, SC.
An officer hastened to the interstate after dispatch advised that callers were reporting two women fighting in a car. When the officer arrived, he found the vehicle pulled over to the side of the road and a white female in the driver’s seat, visibly upset.
The officer immediately noted the smell of alcohol. Funes told him she’d not been driving — but had been drinking. Police found Howard on the roadside, and she said she had just stopped to urinate. The officer noted injuries to her face, but Howard initially purported not to know what happened.
The report said Funes told the officer that she was upset over a custody issue and she and Howard began “bitch fighting” as they traveled down I-85 with Howard at the wheel.
Howard concurred, saying that Funes became upset and began hitting her and pulled her hair, whereupon Howard pulled off the road. Howard admitted to consuming two beers and denied hitting Funes, who she said had been violent in the past.
The two women said they are domestic partners who have lived together for two years.
Police arrested both. As they inventoried the vehicle prior to towing, the report said they discovered that the rear view mirror was out of place and the glass broken, there were shoe imprints on the passenger-side windshield, the wire on the radar detector was pulled out and there was food all over the vehicle, as if it had been thrown.
