Hull man faces family violence charges

A Hull man was arrested recently after he allegedly head-butted his wife and threatened her in the presence of their two children.

Andrew J. Beard, 22, 269 Tommy James Road, was charged with simple battery FVA and disorderly conduct.

According to the incident report, officer Bradley Free went to the residence where he met with Beard’s wife, who told him that Beard, who was currently staying with a friend on Woodale Street, had come to the residence earlier that day and the two began to argue. She said the argument stemmed from her telling him she did not want her children visiting him at the residence where he was staying. She said he became angry and head-butted her on the forehead, pushed her down and then threatened her, all in front of the children. She said she is scared of her husband and afraid that he might come to the house and harm her.

Other incidents on file at the sheriff’s office this week included:

•A man on Roger’s Mill Road reported that he saw a man running from the building next to his house after his dogs began barking. Nothing was reported missing and officers were unable to find the man.

•An a/c unit was reportedly stolen from a foreclosed home on Rock Road.

•A man and his live-in girlfriend were both arrested after they got into a fight at their home on Hwy. 172 on New Year’s Day. According to the incident report, the woman, who officer Jerry Whiddon found crying on the front porch, left the residence earlier because the two had been fighting and that when she came home she saw that her boyfriend was looking at porn on the computer, which made her angry. She said they had been arguing since the previous night because he was drinking beer around the kids. She said she had also thrown out his dip tobacco. The two began a physical altercation, which left them both with injuries.

•A man found the back window of his vehicle shattered after he and his wife left it parked on the right-of-way in front of Liberty Church on Hwy. 106 North while they canoed down the river. A rock was found inside the vehicle, but nothing appeared to be missing.

•A couple on Farm Road reported that their home had been burglarized while they were gone. The only thing found missing was a 357 Magnum pistol, though a jewelry box and dressers had been gone through. It appeared the perpetrator(s) had come in through the front window and left through the front door.
•A man on Wildcat Bridge Road reported that he believes one of the attendees at a New Year’s party at his house stole some speakers and his girlfriend’s watch and necklace. He said the suspect was the only one to go upstairs during the party.

•A man on Sherwood Drive said someone went into his van in his yard overnight and took a small suitcase containing the vehicle’s title. He said the vehicle was not locked.

•Theft by taking was reported on Hillwood Drive last week. A man there reported his truck missing from his backyard. He said the vehicle was there at 1 a.m. when he and his wife came home, but was gone this morning. He said the truck was unlocked, but that a key to it was hidden inside. He named a suspect.
•Terroristic threats and acts were reported on Hwy. 98 East. A woman said someone had sent her a threatening message on her cell phone saying that they would “kill someone close to her.” She said the message came from an unknown email address.

•A man on Hillwood Drive reported that his Mercury Mountaineer had been broken into. He found a camo jacket, two CDs and a box of Craftsman tools missing form the inside of the truck. He said the radio was partially removed. The tools were later found lying in the yard.

•A woman on Piedmont Road reported that some of her and her daughter’s jewelry was taken at some point over the holidays. She named a suspect.

•A woman on Hannah Heights Trail reported that someone stole her Mastercard credit card number and used it at walmart.com between Dec. 18 – 31. The charges were made in Texas, Arizona and Kansas.

•A woman on South Fifth Street reported that jewelry was stolen from her home in November. She said entry was made through an unlocked back door.
•Officer Brandon Moss met with a woman at Zeb’s BBQ last week who told her that her vehicle was stolen from Clarke County the day before by someone she knows. She said a friend called and told her that her vehicle was at a Hwy. 29 North address. She went there, found it and called 9-1-1. A woman at the residence where the vehicle was located told them that the suspect brought the vehicle to the house the day before and that this morning he could not get it to crank. He told the woman he was going to his mother’s house in Franklin County and would come back for it later. The vehicle was towed to the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office.

•Criminal trespass and terroristic threats and acts were reported on Maplewood Lane after a juvenile reported a neighborhood dispute with threats being made. The boy told officer Joshua Smith that he went to a neighbor’s house to get his dog. He said the neighbor told him to come into his fence and get the dog. Once in the fence, the boy said he was told to leave, “dog or no dog.” He said the neighbor then got the dog by the legs and threw it over the fence. He said the neighbor then threatened him with an ice pick, saying “I will slit everyone’s throat.” The boy said he also threatened his uncle with the same statement. Several witnesses also gave the same statement. The suspect’s grandmother said the dispute had escalated from an incident on a school bus involving another juvenile being slapped by her grandson’s daughter a few weeks ago.

•Officer Douglas Martin was sent to an Athens emergency room where he met with a Pine Valley Farm Road man who had been struck with a baseball bat several times in the head and in the side. The victim refused to name the suspect after multiple requests by Martin, only saying that he would “take care of the matter himself” and that he did not want to press charges. Martin cautioned him against taking matters into his own hands. The victim would only say that he attempted to offer advice to a male subject on how to wire an item and that the man then retrieved a baseball bat and struck him multiple times.

•A couple on Merry Lane reported that someone broke into their home and took four Budweisers out of their refrigerator.

•A couple on Watson Drive reported that two of their vehicles had been broken into. Speakers, an amp and iPod were taken from a GMC Jimmy and CDs were taken from a Chevy Blazer.

•A purse found along Hwy. 98 near Comer was returned to a woman whose car was burglarized on Hwy. 172 the previous night.

•Terroristic threats and acts were reported on Wesley Chapel Road after a woman told officers that her estranged daughter-in-law threatened to cut her tires and burn her house down following an argument over some property.

•A man on Kellogg Drive reported that his father’s 1997 Jeep Wrangler was stolen from his back yard. He said he did not want to press charges, he only wanted the vehicle found.

•A man reported that a woman attempted to use a taser on him in the parking lot of the Shell Station. He said he knows the woman and that they have had words in the past because he called her a racial slur. Officer Alan Stratton made contact with the woman across the road at Dollar General. The woman said she had pulled into the Shell station to purchase a “pack of smokes” and that the man pulled in next to her and attempted to “stare her down.” She said they began to argue because of the slur and she approached his car and showed him the taser. She also showed Stratton vulgar text messages he had seen her.

Other incidents reported to the county 9-1-1 office recently included:

•A car accident was reported at Diamond Hill/Neese Road and Hwy. 106 Dec. 28.

•A one-vehicle accident was reported on Hwy. 106 at Bishop Carey Road Dec. 30 when a Mazda left the roadway and struck some trees. The driver who reported had the flu fell asleep at the wheel but was not injured.

•A woman reportedly suffered back pain and an arm injury in an accident on Moons Grove church Road Jan. 3

•A man on Kudzu Road in Comer called 911 after reportedly “squishing” his hand in a can opener and bleeding badly.

•A person on a motorcycle reportedly hit a deer on Horace Elnut Circle in Nicholson Jan. 3.

•Danielsville, Ila and Neese-Sanford volunteer fire departments responded to a structure fire Dec. 28 at 95 Edward Lane, Danielsville. The house was damaged but not destroyed.
