Barrow County school superintendent Wanda Creel on Tuesday night will recommend that the Barrow County Board of Education approve a school year for 2013-2014 restoring half of the 20 days of instruction cut this year to save money.
She will present two school options of the 170-day calendar. Her preference is for one that starts on Aug. 7 and includes a full week off in October for Fall Break, a week off in November for Thanksgiving, and a week off in April for Spring Break. It also would include a two-week Winter Break around Christmas and New Year's Day. The other option calls for schools to open Aug. 12 and to have no extended Fall Break.
The schedule for the upcoming school year is only one of the items on the agenda of the Jan. 29 meeting of the BOE. The meeting is open to the public and begins at 6 p.m. at the school system’s central offices off Highway 211 adjacent to Holly Hill Mall.
