The Apalachee High School Lady Wildcats will face the top seed from the region in a quarterfinal matchup Tuesday in the 8-AAAAA tournament.
AHS defeated Winder-Barrow High School 47-42 in the "play-in" game Monday. Jasmin Bell scored 13 points and Tamaica Morrow added 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Coach Gary Compton's team will now face Flowery Branch at 7 p.m. with a trip to the state tournament on the line. The Lady Falcons defeated the Lady Wildcats in both regular season games this year. Flowery Branch took a 55-36 win on Dec. 7 and a 61-38 victory on Jan. 22.
After Monday's win, Compton said his team would give everything it had to earn the upset.
"We'll try to play them the same way we did tonight," Compton said after the game with WBHS. "We will try to prevent them from getting hot from the 3-point range. That's their strength."
AHS enters the quarterfinal game 9-15 overall. Flowery Branch is 22-3 this season with two of the losses by a combined four points.
