Signage discussed by Braselton DDA

The Braselton Downtown Development Authority held a lengthy discussion at its monthly meeting last week on signs to direct traffic into the downtown area and to help people find their way around the downtown area.
Director Amy Pinnell presented a couple of proposals using wrought iron poles to blend in with the streetlights that are currently used around town.

Pinnell advised that the proposed cost for eight signs is around $9,000.

Authority member Robbie Bettis voiced concern with the somewhat small signs and instead suggested that two larger signs be located along Highway 124 to held drive those motorist into the downtown area.

“We are not getting the traffic off of Highway 124,” Bettis, a downtown business owner, said.

Bettis said she had customers who were unable to locate them since the recent change in the route of Highway 124.
Authority member Cindy Phillips said gateway signs on Hwy. 124 driving people into downtown was a prominent issue.

“We are getting the Highway 53 traffic, but we are not getting the 124 traffic,” Phillips said.

Member Peggy Kriegel said, “I am concerned with $9,000 for signs.”

Phillips stated that the City of Braselton actually gave the DDA some money to be used on signs.

“We need to use this and not sit on it. They won’t give us anymore if we do,” Phillips said.

The board asked Pinnell to get some information on the gateway-type signs to be presented at the March 14 meeting.
