WINDER – Horace B. Powell, 100, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2013.
He was a native of Hartwell and was the son of the late Ida and Isham Powell. He graduated in 1936 from the University of Georgia with a bachelor of science in agriculture. He was a retired county agent and teacher and was of the Methodist denomination. Mr. Powell was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Bell and Charlise Lovett; and brothers, Gaines Powell and M.L. Powell.
Survivors include his wife of 78 years, Louie Dean Powell; son, Ben Powell and wife Becky, Winder; sister, Geri Deloatche and husband G.B. Deloatche, Durham, N.C.; grandsons, Scott McFalls, Bryan McFalls and wife Jen, and San McFalls and wife Lea; great-granddaughter, Marlene McFalls; great-grandson, Avery McFalls and wife Amber, all of Winder; niece, Kay Boyd and husband Derrick, Winder; niece Susan Braswell and husband Mickey, Tennessee; nephews, Lindsey Powell and wife Frankie, of South Carolina, Brant Deloatche and wife Helen, Lavonia, Darrell Deloatche and wife Susan, Durham N.C.; great-nieces and nephews; and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 20, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home with the Revs. Hugh Shirley and Lindsey Powell officiating. Burial will follow at the Nazareth Methodist Church in Winder. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, April 19, from 6 to 8 p.m.
