JEFFERSON - Edward Milam Ayers, 88, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2013.
He was born in Atlanta, the son of the late A. Dewey and Inez Vandiver Ayers. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy and was a member of the Jefferson American Legion Post 56. He retired from Lockheed in Marietta and later was a parts driver for Jackson County. Mr. Ayers was preceded in death by his first wife, Pearl W. Ayers.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Geneva Ayers, Jefferson; sons and daughters-in-law, Edward M. and Laura Ayers Jr., Flowery Branch, and John and Carmen Ayers, Jefferson; stepson, Bill White, Jefferson; sisters, Terice Toney, Jacqueline Burkholter, both of Helen, Jeannette Johnson, Valdosta, and Myra Pace, Clarkesville; brothers, Jack Ayers, Stone Mountain, and Norman Ayers, Cleveland; grandchildren, Russ, Andy, Anna, Cheryl, Lisa, Glenn, Wendy, Mike, Greg, DeeDee, and Robby; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 19, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the Revs. Danny Hill and Dugar Strickland officiating. Burial will follow in the Peachtree Memorial Park in Norcross at 2 p.m. with David Youngblood, Gene Bolton, Bill White, Danny Major, James Freeman and Glenn Waits honored as pallbearers. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
