Last week, East Jackson senior Austin Lumpkin signed a letter of intent to attend and play soccer for West Virginia University’s Institute of Technology.
Lumpkin has played soccer for all four years of high school, two of which were at East Jackson after he moved to Georgia from Hawaii in 2011. He was the leading scorer on his team in Hawaii.
Lumpkin also played football for the Eagles and went to the Hawaii state track and field finals in the triple jump and high jump events.
“(Lumpkin) has excellent speed and endurance, is an asset in offense and defense, and has been one of the leading goal-scorers on the team for the last two seasons,” said East Jackson soccer coach Chris Cooley. “Austin also has a great attitude and commitment, and is a leader on and off the field.”
Cooley added that Lumpkin also has a “very distinctive” hairstyle.
