The City of Colbert announces its 44th Annual July 4th Celebration, with the theme for this year as “United We Stand!”
The parade will begin at 9 a.m., led by Colbert’s own Bennie Tuggle, President of the Colbert Lion’s Club, who has been selected to serve as this year’s Grand Marshal. A variety of displays, floats, marching bands, antique cars, antique tractors, military vehicles, and others will be in the parade.
The Master of Ceremonies is “crazy old” Roscoe PuCannon (B.W. Coile) with a variety of entertainment from the stage featuring Danny Anthony, The Special Ks, Emily Parham and Friends, The Donnie Burroughs Band, and other guests. The Colbert Baptist Church men and ladies will prepare and serve a delicious barbeque and stew ($8/plate) at noon. A fine line-up of exhibitors will be on hand; as well as a variety of food vendors. The little Red Caboose, the museum and The Eberhardt Log Cabin will be open for viewing from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. The Citizens of the Year are Danny and Kathy Anthony, local Colbert residents, who have assisted Colbert in many events and activities over the last few years. Organizers say there will be lots of fun for the children and adults alike.
To register to be in the parade, call City Hall (706-788-2311) or Bruce Scogin (706-207-2903); to register as a vendor, call Jenny Mason (706-255-7053). Deadline to register for parade or vendors is June 29. All proceeds go to improvements of the Colbert community, officials said. “You are invited to spend the day and enjoy an old-fashioned down-home July 4th Independence Day Celebration,” city officials said.
