The candidate-qualifying period for November’s municipal elections ended at 4:30 p.m. today, Aug. 30. Three of the six towns — Braselton, Carl and Statham — had only one candidate qualify in each race and will not have elections. But challengers did emerge in Auburn, Bethlehem and Winder.
To keep their seats, Auburn incumbents Bob Vogel and Donna Scouten will have to get more votes than challengers William B. Acworth, former mayor Harold Money, and Jay Riemenschneider. In Bethlehem, Joe Price and C.L. Wood will compete for Post 3. Incumbents Tommy Parten and Tommy Buchanan will face no opposition. And in Winder, at-large councilman Bob Dixon will face two female challengers — Nicole Tobias and former Barrow Journal columnist Lorin Sinn-Clark. Sinn-Clark qualified on Friday. Councilmen Sonny Morris and Ridley Parrish have no opposition.
