An alleged shoplifting at the Flying J on Maysville Road led to three arrests — but none of them connected with the shoplifting.
A clerk told the officer that she observed Tania Elizabeth Winchell, 27, of 3535 Athens Highway, Jefferson, conceal several items in her clothing.
As an officer spoke with Winchell and two other people with her, a white female reported that someone had stolen her cell phone while she was in the business’ rest room. The officer recovered the phone, which Winchell said she found, and charged her with theft of lost or mislaid property.
The officer also arrested Kristin D. Maddox, 22, 881 Briscoe Mill Road, Commerce, on a Jackson County warrant for failure to appear, and after a search of Tommy Ray Phillips, 47, 421 Melvin Phillips Road, Commerce, turned up a pill bottle containing a plastic bag with methamphetamine, charged Phillips with possession of methamphetamine.
The report noted that neither Maddox nor Phillips claimed to have identification on them at the time of the incident. It also stated that the store had video showing Winchell concealing merchandise in her clothing.
