The Bethlehem Christian Academy volleyball team defeated Heirway Christian in three straight sets Saturday in Douglasville.
The Lady Knights will now face Frederica Academy Friday at 1 p.m. The match will be hosted by Augusta Prep.
If victorious, BCA would also play Friday at 5:30 p.m.
Team members include seniors Jessica Peavy, Ravyn Harrison, Karlee Fisher, Christina Najjar, Karrie Parkin and Morgan Gano along with sophomores Jordan Garmon, Katelyn Price, Lacey Brand, Kara Maxwell, Ally Conley and Brittany Norwood.
The team was third in its region during the regular season.
“The team is being led by seniors Jessica Peavy, who is easily one of the best setters in the area, and Ravyn Harrison, who continues to be strong in the middle and is a leader on the court,” said coach Karen Carlyle. “Karlee Fisher leads the team in blocks. In the outside position, Jordan Garmon has been fierce, averaging four kills a match.
“Lacey Brand continues to do well in the setter position and Katelyn Price plays mainly outside but is also a consistent setter when needed. Karrie Parkin has worked her way to a starting position in several games for us and continues to get stronger. She and Christina Najjar are some of the best receivers on the team. Morgan Gano has one of the best timings on the team in the middle position. Kara Maxwell, Ally Conley, and Brittany Norwood all played on the junior varsity squad and are talented additions to the varsity team.
Carlyle said the team has benefited from having a strong bench.
“I could easily start any six of the 12 players and be secure in the fact that each position will have a capable player in it,” the coach said. “Another key to our success this year is we started a conditioning and weight training program at the beginning of the summer. We also had collegiate volleyball coach Disa Garner come in and run a clinic for all our volleyball teams The varsity team also attended a camp at FSU this summer. So all this training has better equipped our team for this season. As always, our team is a family unit.”
