The 2008 football season came to an end Friday night for the Jefferson Dragons, as they fell to the Lovett Lions 34-24 in the second round of playoff action.
Despite the loss, it was a dream season for the Dragon Nation, as Jefferson went 11-1, winning their first region title since 1977.
The game was tight from the beginning, with Jefferson striking first with a field goal, then moving out to a ten point advantage.
But Lovett came back strong, and led 21-17 at the half.
Jefferson would score again, just 20 seconds into the second half.
It turned out to be the last touchdown of the season, as Lovett slipped through again and again, and took the lead 28-24 in the fourth quarter.
Lovett then made the move to put the nail in the coffin after recovering an onside kick.
Two-minutes later, Lovett scored again, then held control of the ball for most of the rest of the quarter to take the win, and move on to the quarterfinals.
For Jefferson, they can now look back on one of the most successfull season's in their history, and prepare for what's sure to be a good 2009.
