Power has been restored to most areas of Jackson County officials of Jackson EMC said Wednesday morning with only 354 customers in the area still without electricity.
In Madison County, some 4,386 JEMC customers remain without power Wednesday morning, down from 8,000 Tuesday afternoon. Madison County was hit hard by Sunday's snow storm and school was again canceled Wednesday.
According to JEMC, 30 work crews are in Madison County Wednesday. Some 70 broken power poles were rreported in the county with 17 remaining to be fixed. Mud has been a major problem in restoring power, officials said, as trucks get bogged down and have to be pulled out of the mire.
Most of the feeder lines have been restored in Madison County, JEMC officials said Wednesday morning and work in both Madison and Jackson is now focused on restoring power to individual homes.
My husband works for JEMC and he was called into work at 2:30p.m. on Sunday. He was called out to help get other people's power restored while we didn't have power at our own home. He had to leave myself and our two kids home while he went to work. In fact,he is still out working now and it is midnight on Wednesday. He has only came home for a few hours to sleep since Sunday afternoon. He along with a bunch of other men are working around the clock,so you all should appreciate them for the work they do. There were thousands of people without power, not just one person. It takes a while to get everyone's power back on. My children haven't seen their Daddy since Sunday. In fact,I let them stay up late tonight so that maybe they coud see him before they went to sleep. I called him at 11:00 and he was still working and didn't know when he would be home,so my kids had to go to sleep once again without seeing their daddy. He was in Kentucky a few weeks ago and had to stay for two weeks to help the people there. Some people there were without power for a month and people here are complaining about a few days. What would you do if you were in those people's shoes. Thank God you live where you do and that it isn't worse because it could be. My husband said that even though those people were without power for so long they were still so nice and appreciative of the help they recieved from JEMC. Stop complaining and thank God for what you have.
PLAN AHEAD!!
For those who are wondering why they dispatched so late...it is hard to get to a home when you are unable to navigate down the roads. If a tree or snow is blockin the road, you can't very well get there to fix the power. Just be thankful that such a great company as Jackson EMC and all the others who pitched in to help were able to get the power back on when they did. In Athens, the police department had to borrow the counties 4-wheel drive trucks just to get around.
If you are so worried about sick kids, when you heard of this coming why didn't you make sure you had some source of heat??? Well DUH!!!
If you like Walton EMC so much...why don't you go back there. No oone will probably mind if you have this kind of attitude all the time.
Personally, I have Georgia Power and they got me going Sunday evening. Good luck with that membership.
It's simple mathematics. Where did the profit go? Do they have more employees than Georgia power per customer? I myself have witnessed a Jackson EMC employee using their equipment on his personal property. That might be where your member dollars are going.
I do realize that I have just wasted my time because you could really care less about the people and are just wanting to discourage and bash JEMC.
I am sure in your line of work you have pleased everyone you ever encountered.
if i got paid what they do,I would be frist in line to goto work,Lets See,16hr days at time an a Half = lota cash,Poor guys,i would to have a job with Jackson EMC,Darn Hiring freeze.
Oh yea! the part where they work 16hr with no break (Bull****)I saw 20+ trucks at Cracker Barrel with their own table.buts thats ok, Mans Gotta Eat!Overall Good Jobs guys, thank God For People Like Pike,an the other Subs that really got our power back on,Oh Yea! Guys at JEMC ,How about talking to your Boss,an see if they will let you cut all those problem trees down during the SUMMER when its nice an WARM! I know ive tried to get EMC to Cut some trees that were a problem,No Luck.Guess they rather do it when it snows,,,
Maybe you should look at it like this: no matter the job, everyone has the right to eat. Would you prefer that these guys just keep working until hunger and fatigue cause them to make a life threatening or life ending mistake? There were way more power outages than men working, so should they have called to check with you to see if you were ok first and then worried about the thousands of other customers? Do these men not deserve to be paid for thier work? By the way, 8 hours of those 16 hour days are their normal work day so the overtime is not what you think, though they deserve every single penny that they make considering the job that they perform. You are without power? Well, they are without a decent night's sleep and their wives are at home without their husbands. So I guess we are all having to make sacrafices. Wouldn't you agree? Leave these men alone and let them do their jobs in peace!
I am quite sure that my husband would have rather been at
home with his 13 month old daughter rather than working all
day and all night for ungrateful consumers that are not
appreciative of the danger that is associated with going
out in this weather. Each and every one of the workers
at JEMC need to be thanked for the sacrifices that they
put forth for YOU!!
As for 20 plus trucks at a restaurant, you ate didn't you?
First they are sleep deprived, now you think they should
be food deprived as well.
I also threw out 8 garbage bags of food but I would have
gladly thrown out more, if it has meant my husband could
have been at home.
People need to be more courteous and appreciative for the
workers that are out there day in and day out to make
your lives a little more comfortable.
in my subdivision. Your power is showing restored. Which it was not they were having to
re open tickets. My concern was who was closing out tickets on places the power had not been restored ? It was very upsetting to wait 12 hrs and call back and they tell you your ticket was closed out 3 hars ago but the power had never been restored
As for the selfish comments please stop and count your blessings.
Contrary to what seems to be popular belief, there is no magic crystal ball that tells them where all the damage is to the lines, where the trees are down or where the poles are broken. Much of this happens off the beaten path, out of obvious sight. Therefore, someone must walk these lines to FIND the areas of damage in order to fix them. There was a very nice, albeit very tired Georgia Power rep doing that very same thing on our property on Sunday night.
So, despite the fact that it was cold, and I was inconvenienced, I am grateful to those gentlemen who were a lot more inconvenienced than I - for working so diligently to get our power on and get us back to normal. Thank you, gentlemen.
