Two of the three Piedmont Judicial Circuit Superior Court judges who serve Jackson, Barrow and Banks counties are facing serious medical issues.
Judge Joe Booth, Commerce, was put in intensive care unit at Athens Regional Medical Center over the weekend while Judge David Motes, Jefferson, is facing surgery this coming Thursday.
Booth went to the hospital late last week with flu-like symptoms. The problem was later found to be related to his colon. He had emergency colon removal surgery and has also developed a blood infection.
Motes will undergo surgery Thursday at Athens Regional Medical Center related to a bone infection.
