BARN DESTROYED IN FIRE; ANIMALS RESCUED

A barn was destroyed in a fire on Jan. 30 on Lynn Drive in Homer. Farm animals in the barn were removed from the barn and treated by a local vet. The Banks County Fire/EMS and Lee Arrendale Correctional Institute fire departments responded to a call of a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found a detached barn, approximately 30 x 50 feet, well involved with fire. Several farm animals had to be removed with the assistance of several people who stopped to render aid. No one was home at the time of the fire and the animals received medical attention from a local vet. The structure is listed as heavily damaged and no other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is listed as accidental and an electrical problem with a heating source could not be ruled out.
