BUSINESS DESTROYED IN FIRE

A fire destroyed a business in Alto on Sunday, Dec. 8. Fire units from Banks County Fire/EMS, Lee Arrendale Correctional Institute Fire Department and mutual aid from Baldwin and Habersham fire departments responded to 261 West Coker Road in Alto on a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found a large commercial structure, one story, fully involved with fire. Banks County fire chief Steve Nichols said, "a defensive operation was initiated and all exposures were covered." The business was utilized as a family-owned commercial flooring company. Numerous chemical components, wood flooring, four vehicles and a fork lift was burned in the structure. The building is listed as a total loss. No fire hydrants are in the area and a water shuttle was established by the mutual aid units. The owners were home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Banks County Fire Department.
