HOME HEAVILY DAMAGED IN FIRE

A Commerce home was heavily damaged in a fire on Oct. 24. The Banks County and Lee Arrendale Correctional Institute fire departments were called to a 199 Trout Lane, Commerce, residence on a reported structure fire. Firefighters found the single-family residence with heavy smoke and fire showing. A quick offensive attack was made on the fire, containing it to three rooms of the structure. The entire residence had heat, smoke and water damage. The resident was at home at the time of the fire and got out without injury. The home received heavy damage. The cause of fire is still under investigation by the Banks County Fire Department but is listed as accidental in nature and originated in the laundry room near a clothes dryer.
