Alto officials are seeking federal funds to pay for some new police cars.

The Alto City Council members unanimously agreed at a May 1 3 meeting to apply for a United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development grant. The funds from this grant would be used to purchase two police cars.

The maximum amount of the grant is $25,000, and a $30,000 loan is also offered. This would be repaid in annual installments of $8,387 over a period not to exceed four years.

Jeff McCloud and Jane Ferguson, USDA Rural Development, were on hand to go over the application process and answer any questions the council might have.

Police Chief Robin Krockum presented this proposal to the council at the meeting in April.

Ferguson told the council that once the application is signed, the money would be set-aside for the Town of Alto to use on this project.
