New website launched

Mainstreet Newspapers is launching a new website starting Sept. 18.

The new site will include all the content from the firm's five newspapers, unlike the previous sites which only included selected stories.

The website address will stay the same at

For now, access to the site will remain free. But starting in early 2020, only newspaper subscribers will be able to access content on the website.

"Once we go behind a paywall, you will have to be a subscriber to access the content," said editor Mike Buffington.

For now, to access content on the new website viewers will have to create a log-in account with their email address.

All the content from The Jackson Herald, The Banks County News, the Barrow News-Journal, the Madison County Journal and the Braselton News will be available on the regional website for the four-county area.

Mainstreet Newspapers will also maintain its separate stand-alone websites for area obituaries and regional sports.

This is what I've been waiting for for 10 years, the whole publication online. It looks great and local commentary of a reasonable nature will be useful and interesting. Thanks for the "report" button. All newspapers are struggling, but absolutely essential; I am happy to support this one and many others. Glad MainstreeNews is still publishing.
