The Barrow County Board of Commissioners voted 5-1 Tuesday night to extend the contract for interim county manager Jimmy Terrell.

The lone dissenting vote came from Roger Wehunt, the newest member of the board.

BOC members were told that the contract for Terrell would continue until a permanent county manager could be hired. The new contract extension will also allow Terrell to be paid for upcoming holidays.

County human resources director Charlie Felts told the commissioners that “recruitment” for a new county manager is “moving forward.”

Wehunt, who was recently elected to the BOC in a special election, asked if any resumes had already been received for the position. Felts said a couple resumes had been sent in and would be kept for further review.

“Why not try one of them on a temporary basis?” Wehunt asked. “It seems like we could find someone.”

At that point, chairman Pat Graham called for a vote on the contract extension and Wehunt’s inquiry ended.
