Barrow County residents are applying for gun permits at a record pace. In the first half of this year, the Barrow County Probate Court accepted almost as many applications for Georgia Weapons Permits as it did in all of 2012. In the decade leading up to last year, the court typically received fewer than 700 annually. But in 2012 the number rose to 1,120 — a 45-percent increase. And as of July 1 of this year, 1,024 local residents had applied, setting the stage for a possible doubling of last year’s record.
