The Barrow County Board of Education has named Dr. Chris McMichael as the sole finalist in the superintendent search.

McMichael currently serves as the system's executive director of teaching and learning and support

"We think he's going to do a really great job," said chairman Mark Still. "And we're glad to have filled the position."

McMichael served as principal in the system for three years and was previously a principal at Cartersville City and Hall County schools. He served as assistant principal of Riverside Military Academy from 1995-2001.

McMichael received an associate of arts from Gainesville State College in 1986, a fine arts degree from Armstrong Atlantic State University in 1990 and a bachelor of arts and bachelor of science degree in fine arts and art education from North Georgia College and State University in 1994.

He received his master's degree in art education from NGCSU in 1997 and his doctorate from the University of Georgia in 2004.

The board must advertise the decision for 14 days before voting.
