New food pantry location opens in Winder

On Tuesday, Sept. 1, the Barrow County Cooperative Benevolence Ministries (BCCBM) board members and guests celebrated the opening of the new Barrow County Food Pantry in Winder. The new pantry is located at 201 West Athens St., Suite A, in the Holly Hill Mall across from Hill's Ace Hardware, and replaces the old location on Candler Street. Alex Hill donated the space for the delivery, storage and distribution of food items in Barrow County. The new location provides sufficient storage and work space for all product, thus allowing all preparation for distribution to various services from one location, rather than three, leaders said. At the grand opening the BCCBM also presented a check for $5,000 to the Barrow County School System’s Feeding Barrow program. Food Vouchers can be obtained at the Barrow County Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) office at 16 Lee St., Winder, and at most churches in Barrow County. The mobile food pantry, offered on the fourth Thursday of every month at Holly Hill Mall, and the third Thursday in November and December, also provides food to Barrow County residents.
