There were no injuries that resulted from a small plane crash at the Barrow County Airport Friday afternoon, Nov. 6. According to Barrow County Emergency Services officials, communication officers received a 911 call reporting the crash just before 1:30 p.m. Friday and emergency personnel arrived to find that the plane had gone off the runway and was leaning on a fence. The pilot was the only person on the plane, was not injured and was already out prior to emergency crews' arrival, BCES spokesman Capt. Scott Dakin said. "The plane suffered heavy damage from the crash. Firefighters ensured there was no fuel or oil leaks and that no other hazards were on the scene," Dakin said. “The pilot was wearing his seatbelt which likely saved his life." As of last weekend, the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were still investigating the cause of the crash.
