No foul play was involved in the death of a man whose body was found in a private pond off Holsenbeck School Road in Winder last week. Autopsy results indicate the man died from drowning, Winder Police Department Public Information Officer Chris Cooper said Tuesday. Prescription drugs were also present in the man's bloodstream. The man was reported missing on Jan. 5 by his estranged wife’s step-mother or mother-in law, but authorities are still looking for his next of kin before they release his name. "We have not contacted what we believe to be direct kin," said Cooper. "We’re having a real difficult time finding a true next of kin."
The case is still under active investigation, but a note the man left before he was reported missing indicates he intended to end his life. The Hall County Sheriff’s Office dive team assisted Winder Police in locating the body, which was found on the eastern side of the acre-sized pond near a drain.
