Author, Barrow schools alum encourages students to treat others with kindness

Stanley Tucker, left, a former student of Statham Elementary, an alumnus of Winder-Barrow High School and an established author, spoke recently to Barrow County students. He is pictured with Ethan Evans at Statham Elementary. He also appeared at Bethlehem Elementary School and Westside Middle School. Tucker shared a book that he wrote in honor of his father, the late Stanley Tucker. The book was titled, “Stan and the Man.” Tucker uses literacy to promote kindness, and he leaves the students with a challenge to promote 39 acts of kindness in honor of each year his father was alive. He reads to Barrow students in February as part of the last leg of his book tour. Tucker said, “The take-home message is encouraging the kids to live a life that makes their parents proud and you do that by the way you treat people, how hard you work, and doing the right thing even when no one is looking.” Tucker said he made an appearance in 2019 on the Ellen DeGeneres show and he modeled his game, “Read’n Roller, after her game. Two students from each school who “treat others with kindness and respect” played the game and won a prize for competing.
