BASA band students selected for top honors

Members of the Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy band program recently participated in All-State and District Band performances sponsored by the Georgia Music Educators Association. Two BASA students were chosen for District Band honors, and one eighth-grade student was selected for the highly-competitive All-State Band. This year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, students prepared a video submission of their audition materials rather than the traditional in-person audition. Though it was ninth-grader Ryan McAllister's (pictured above) first-time auditioning, his preparation earned a spot as a trombonist in the District 14 (Northeast Georgia) Symphonic Band. If a student earns a high enough score on their District Honor Band audition, they advance to the All-State audition round. Among hundreds of students from across the state, eighth-grader Juhwan Bae auditioned and won the third highest chair for bass clarinets in the state for the 2021 All-State event.
