Winder-Barrow High School head band director Jerry Pharr is pictured conducting the band in the playing of the school’s fight song during the football team’s spring scrimmage against Jackson County on Thursday, May 20, at W. Clair Harris Stadium. Pharr is retiring at the end of the 2020-21 school year this week after 28 years with the Barrow County School System. He was head band director at Russell Middle School from 1993-2014 before becoming the head director at WBHS in the summer of 2014. Prior to moving to Barrow County, Pharr was director of bands at Doss High School in Louisville, Kentucky. A native of Washington, Pharr holds a bachelor of music education degree from the University of Georgia and a master of music performance degree from the University of Louisville. His bands at Winder-Barrow have achieved a long run of superior ratings and other awards at marching and concert competitions and festivals.
