Winder-Barrow DE Merrifield commits to Florida Atlantic

Winder-Barrow High School senior standout defensive end Jacob Merrifield has made his college decision. The 6-foot-3 265-pounder announced recently that he has committed to Florida Atlantic University, picking the Owls over several other Division I FBS and FCS offers. Merrifield, who has been a staple on the Bulldoggs’ defensive line the last few seasons and also starts on the offensive line, had 66 tackles, 19 tackles for loss and six sacks as a junior in 2019. Merrifield was named the GHSA Region 8-AAAAAA Defensive Lineman of the Year. Merrifield and the Bulldoggs are currently going through a modified summer program due to coronavirus restrictions imposed by the GHSA. If conditions allow, Winder-Barrow is scheduled to open its 2020 campaign Aug. 21 at crosstown rival Apalachee.
