The Hall County Sheriff’s Office recently participated in a statewide coordinated effort to conduct residence verifications and compliance checks of registered sex offenders.

The initiative, known as Operation Watchful Eye, began in 2015 and has become an annual operation, according to the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association.

During the October 25-November 1 effort this year, the HCSO conducted 15 residence checks. While two were during normal hours of operation of the Sex Offender Registration and Tracking (SORT) Unit, 13 were on the evening of Halloween in conjunction with the Georgia Department of Community Supervision.

During the operation, SORT also obtained a warrant for an offender who had unlawfully relocated to Chicago, Ill. Additionally during the week, the unit executed three warrants and obtained three warrants for charges other than sex offenses.

“Our SORT Unit always does a fantastic job ensuring that the approximately 300 registered sex offenders residing in Hall County are in compliance with the law,” Sheriff Gerald Couch said. “I’m proud of what our men and women were able to accomplish during Operation Watchful Eye. I will continue to encourage our participation each year with Georgia’s other sheriffs."
