Early voting opens Monday

Early and absentee-by-mail voting for the Nov. 5 election begins Monday, Oct. 14, at the Jackson County Elections and Registration Office in Jefferson for all cities across Jackson County.

Candidates on the ballot include:

•Braselton Town Council District 1 — Becky Richardson (I), Joy Basham and Richard Mayberry.

•Braselton Town Council District 3 — Tony Funari (I) and Jim Joedecke.

•Hoschton City Council seats, Posts 5 and 6 — Mindi Kiewert (I), Shantwon Astin and Adam Ledbetter. The top two vote-getters will secure the two seats.

During the final week of early voting, Oct. 28-Nov. 1, Braselton voters can only cast their votes at the Braselton Police and Municipal Court Building.

Meanwhile, voters in the other cities can cast their ballots at any of the early voting locations during the final week of early voting.

Those early voting locations are: Jackson County Elections and Registration Office, 441 Gordon St., Jefferson; Commerce Parks and Rec, 204 Carson St., Commerce; and Braselton Police and Municipal Court building, 5040 Hwy. 53, Braselton.

Early voting hours are Mondays-Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

ELECTION DAY

Polls will be open on Election Day, Nov. 5, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Polling locations include:

Braselton — Police and Municipal Court Building, 5040 Hwy. 53, Braselton.

Hoschton — Hoschton Depot – 4272 Hwy. 53, Hoschton.

CLARIFICATION

In previous issues of this newspaper, qualifying stories indicated Tony Funari and Jim Joedecke qualified for the Braselton Town Council District 2 race. Funari and Joedecke qualified for the District 3 race.

The District 2 seat is not up for election this year.

Braselton West Fest is Oct. 12

Braselton West Fest will be held Oct. 12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"Little gold BURDS will be perched in places across Braselton West for a BURD spotting scavenger hunt," organizers state.

Prizes will be awarded to participants who spot them all. Giveaways will also be held for all BURD watchers.

Attendees can start at the Braselton West Fest Nest in the Circle K parking lot, 7342 Spout Springs Rd.

Registration open for Zombie 5K run

Braselton's Zombie 5K Run will be held Oct. 19 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in downtown Braselton.

The schedule includes:

•7:30 a.m. — Runner registration and packet pick-up

•8:30 a.m. — 5K begins

•9:30 a.m. — Awards presentation

The cost is $30 for those who pre-register by Oct. 11 (this includes a T-shirt and goodie bag). After Oct. 11, registration is $35 and the T-shirt and goodie bag is not guaranteed.
