The non-profit thrift store Clothes Closet has recently upgraded at its West Candler Street location, across from the Winder Police Department headquarters. All proceeds from the store go back into the Barrow County community through the Church of the Month program, Food Pantry and other outreach organizations in the area. "The prices are so reasonable and they have everything from furniture to toys, clothes, and housewares," leaders state. The store recently got in a large collection of Bradford Exchange plates and are selling them for $5 each. The store is open weekdays (Monday-Friday) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Come Alive Ministries Pregnancy Care Center of Winder held a barbecue fundraiser Saturday, May 1, at Whistleville Christian Church, with volunteers serving hundreds of meals to the local community. "The board, staff and volunteers of CAM Pregnancy Care Center would like to extend our appreciation to all who helped make this a great and successful barbecue fundraiser," leaders said. 

The media program at Winder Elementary has been selected as the Georgia Library Media Association (GLMA) 2021 Elementary Exemplary Media Program. The program was created to recognize library media programs that empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers and ethical users of information both in vision and in practice. Media specialist Tammy Privette is also Barrow County's 2021 Library Media Specialist of the Year.
