A College and Career Fair was held at Foothills Education Charter High School with 20 businesses and colleges participating.
Information was presented on colleges and careers, door prizes were given away and refreshments were provided.
“We had over 80 students attend the College and Career Fair,” Angie Bowen,” Career Specialist stated. “We offered a variety of presenters for both four-year colleges and technical colleges.”
Bowen has provided presenters throughout the school year from area businesses and colleges, giving students information on a variety of options for them after they graduate from high school.
“Throughout the school year, we have based our presenters upon our student surveys and interests,” Bowen said. “From those, we were able to generate what careers our students were interested in when they leave Foothills. We are hoping that our presenters planted a seed, made some connections and formed some lasting relationships with our student population. We are hoping to expand on this fair for next year, and we are always actively looking for community involvement and volunteers! If any business or college is interested in being part of this fair next year or conducting a learning opportunity this school year, please let us know.”
Colleges and businesses represented at this year's College and Career Fair included: Lanier Tech, Athens Tech, University of North Georgia, Kennesaw College, Toccoa Falls College, Nicholson Fire Department, Classic Center in Athens, the United States Army, E.R. Snell Contractors, the United States Postal Service, Jackson Electric Membership Corporation, the Census Bureau, the National Guard, Proficient Massage Therapy, the United States Forestry Service, Winder Police Department, Georgia Institute of Cosmetology, Universal Forest Products, Spruce Salon and Jackson County Voter Registration.
