Jackson County FFA members Joseph Ledford, Whitney Hulsey, Ethan Culver and Brooks Franklin placed sixth in the Area II Poultry Evaluation Career Development Event on Thursday, Feb. 27, at Banks County High School.
Members had to evaluate interior and exterior qualities of shelled eggs, select live meat-type chickens for broiler breeding, evaluate and place live egg-type hens and rate the finished product by evaluating and grading ready-to-cook carcasses and chicken parts. Georgia is the fourth largest poultry producing region in the world. The industry contributes over 25 billion dollars to Georgia’s economy and provides over 91,000 jobs.
“By participating in the event, FFA members develop skills and increase their knowledge of the industry through instruction in the agriculture classroom,” leaders stated.
